Keeping Your Car Windshield Clear

driving in snowOnce winter arrives, drivers must remember to leave a little bit of extra time to clear their windows before hitting the road. Whether you had some snow, freezing rain or just a little coating of frost, it's important to make sure you can see out of all your windows. Un-cleared windows can not only earn you a traffic violation, but an accident can occur as a result of unsafe procedure. There are some ways to make this daily chore a little easier on drivers.
  • If you really detest scraping the windshield, invest in a windshield cover. Simply roll it out on the windshield every night and secure it. Then in the morning when you remove it, all you'll have to do is make sure your side windows are clear before driving. Rubber bath mats or a large piece of cardboard will also work if you’re looking for a less expensive option.

  • Replace wiper fluid with a winter formula. Windshield washer fluid made for colder temperatures can melt off a light layer of frost or ice, and does a great job cleaning your window as you're on the road too.

  • Switch to winter wiper blades. Ever had the issue that you finally get your wipers unfrozen only to find that they're useless because there is snow or ice trapped under the blade? Winter blades have a special rubber covering that prevents that problem, making them a superior product for keeping your windshield clear in the winter.

  • Have the right equipment available. Ice scrapers are inexpensive, yet people are always caught off guard, especially at the beginning of the winter. Pick one up now and avoid being one of those people trying to scrape their windshield with a credit card, knife or metal spatula, which are usually not that effective and can damage your windshield.
Winter driving can be hazardous to begin with, so don't add to the risk by driving with windows that are covered in ice or snow. Plan ahead and make a few simple changes to make clearing your windshield easy and less time consuming.

A good policy helps protect you on the road. Call Auto Insurance Express at (417) 206-3733 for more information on Springfield MO auto insurance.
